In 1862, Darwin examined a Madagascar orchid with an 11-inch nectar spur and predicted a moth with a proboscis long enough to reach it. Many were skeptical. In 1903, the moth was found and its subspecies named praedicta — "the predicted one." The best predictions take patience.
